Used Kites

A well-kept kite keeps its qualities for several seasons. On Swiss lakes, where the wind is often gusty, a versatile kite that relaunches easily is worth more than a very specialised model.

Which size and type?

For a 75 kg rider on a twintip, a 9 m² and a 12 m² cover most conditions. For foiling, one smaller kite is often enough. Light single-strut kites are popular for foiling and light wind.

Check before you buy

  • Tubes: inflate the kite and leave it for a few hours – it must not go soft.
  • Canopy and seams, especially at the trailing edge and tips.
  • Bridles and pulleys: no chafing, no frayed lines.
  • Valves and connections between tubes.
  • Model year: it matters more for safety than for performance.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy the kite with its bar?

Often easier, since each brand has its own line setup. A recent bar of the same brand usually works with several kite years – check compatibility.

How long does a kite last?

Used regularly and stored dry, a kite lasts four to six seasons. Sun and sand wear it faster than riding does.
